Pictures - Manatee 2 |
|||||||||||
It's difficult to see how the manatee could have have ever been mistaken for a beautiful mermaid. A manatee's jowled face with spiked hairs is almost like that of a walrus. The walrus head is attached to a sausage-like body with a broad beaver's tail attached at the end. A strange combination of shapes but the manatee has a very streamlined body. It usually cruises at about 2 mph but their broad tail can generate brief spurts up to 15 mph.
